SheepGenomics is a $30M joint initiative of Australian Wool Innovation Limited (AWI) and Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA), working together with 11 leading research organisations from Australia and New Zealand.
The Program aims to discover sheep genes and their functions, and to provide new tools to producers that enable them to increase the rate of genetic change in their flocks. The focus of the program is improved productivity and product quality for wool fibre and meat, improved reproduction and better host resistance to parasites.
SheepGenomics harnesses the collective skills of leading scientists from many different fields, including genetics, genomics, nutrition, animal and cell biology, parasitology and bioinformatics. Working together in these multidisciplinary teams develops synergies and more rapid progress.
